Dr. Lee Blaney receives MD-ACS Braude Award
Dr. Blaney of the Department of Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, will receive a plaque and a check to support his research at the October meeting of the Maryland Section.
At that meeting he will also present his research on environmental chemistry. His work focuses on two important topics:
(i) the occurrence, fate, transport, and toxicity of contaminants of emerging concern, such as pharmaceuticals, personal care products, hormones, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, in the natural environment and engineered drinking water and wastewater treatment processes;
(ii) the recovery of vital resources, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, from municipal and agricultural waste streams to not only improve water quality, but also ensure sustainable development
