Jenny Thomas, ‘23 chemical engineering

Jenny Thomas, '23 chemical engineering - traditional track, chemistry minor

Internship Location:

Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Virtual Internship

What is the focus of your research/internship?

For my internship, which was virtual, I was a fellow through the ORISE program which offers a wide variety of fellowships throughout the country. I worked with a group within the FDA to create a database of pharmaceutical data using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), which I did not know before my internship!

What advice do you have for students who are interested in getting involved in research or an internship?

It can be intimidating to start applying, but believe in yourself and put yourself out there! Teachers in the department are always sending emails about job opportunities that you should look into! The UMBC Career Center was also helpful in reviewing my resume before I used it in applications.

Are you a member of any clubs/campus organizations?

Tau Beta Pi, Undergraduate Research in Dr. Summers' Lab (September 2020 - present)

What are your goals after graduation?

Work in industry, maybe with pharmaceutical production
