Research Interests

My lab will begin operations in Jan 2016. Our highly interdisciplinary research will focus on utilizing engineering approaches (drug delivery, biomaterials, systems biology) to 1) identify and compensate for deficient immune signal processing in tumor-suppressed cell networks, 2) create novel, integrative immuno-diagnostic and -prognostic platforms (in silicoin vitro) to optimize patient interventions via rational design of immune modulation, and 3) develop new classes of local, metabolism-focused immunotherapies. A unique combination of strengths fuels our work including basic and clinical immunology, systems biology, biomaterials, and novel platforms and devices. These skills will be used to provide solutions for urgent needs in cancer and vaccine development as well as clinical immunomonitoring. Close ties are forming between our work and the University of Maryland Medical School, notably the Tumor Immunology & Immunotherapy Program in the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center and the Center for Vaccine Development.
